Hurricane Communications: Learning from Each Other

Find out how other companies and organizations communicated to employees and the community during Hurricane Harvey. We’ll talk about pre-storm, storm and post-storm communications, moving from hurricane preparation to employee assistance and long-term recovery efforts. In this interactive session, we’ll share insights from a variety of perspectives, including a healthcare organization, a nonprofit, and a large oil and gas services company, to capture what worked and what didn’t work. Together, we’ll learn from our experiences in everything from social media, to employee communications, to community relations.

We are pleased to announce that ALL proceeds from this luncheon will be donated directly to the Greater Houston Community Foundation's relief fund benefiting Hurricane Harvey victims.

Our September speaker, Mary Wiggins, has extensive experience helping Fortune 100 companies drive employee engagement and communication for better business results. Most recently, she guided BHGE employees through Hurricane Harvey, as well as two mergers (one successful, one not). From Hurricane Alicia to now, she has had the opportunity to climb offshore derricks, walk around inside an (empty) LNG tanker and get behind the wheel of a dragster in her role as chief storyteller. With more than 25 awards from her peers in business communication, she is a respected communication strategist and practitioner, as well as a recipient of IABC Houston’s Communicator of the Year award. Currently, Mary is Director of Global Employee Communications at Baker Hughes, a GE company. She is also an artist, and her work has been exhibited at the Houston Contemporary Craft Museum, the Jung Center and other local galleries.
