All of us use the internet for client business, shopping and entertainment. But, to protect ourselves, we need to be aware of important security concepts:

  • The need for multifactor authentication (MFA)
  • Awareness of phishing techniques
  • Traditional antivirus vs. next-gen antivirus
  • Protecting against ransomware
  • Internet tracking from digital businesses like Facebook and Google
  • Dealing with iPhone or Android smartphone tracking
  • The risks of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart-home devices

Hint: At the very least, go change the password that came on your Ring doorbell system.

Security consultants Michael Graham and Joseph Janecka, of the cybersecurity firm Parsolvo, will explore with us how to minimize our exposure to computer hacking and privacy invasion. They’ll cover hacking techniques and defenses, as well as smart-home security. They’ll also discuss tracking: why corporations do it, its prevalence, the methods used and its ramifications, from receiving targeted ads to the collection and sale of your personal information.

Please join us. And it’s OK to tweet your friends about it.

This meeting was planned by Ralph Fuller and Robb Bartlett.
