ESIG Is 25 Years Young!

January 2018 marks the 25th anniversary of ESIG’s founding. And we’re going to celebrate it in a big way!

There’ll be cake, party hats and a nostalgic look back on those early days. And, perhaps even more importantly, we’ll take an exciting look ahead to what the next 25 years might bring.

In those early days of the Internet in 1993, an enthusiastic group of self-employed IABC/Houston members met to outline goals, structure/procedures and composition of the chapter’s Entrepreneurs’ Strategic Interest Group. Primarily, the group formed to research and report on topics of common interest to entrepreneurs.

“The primary purpose is to educate ourselves and support each other. We have writers, graphic designers, video experts and public relations professionals who are seeing this as a great way to connect with other resources and jointly promote the use of entrepreneurial creative services in the Houston market,” said Carole Minor of Encore Communications in 1994 when she was one of seven individuals who served on the group’s first steering committee.

Twenty-five years ago we received Stet, the chapter’s newsletter, by mail. Telephone numbers had only seven digits. FAX numbers were used widely. And we began meeting and eating at the fabulous La Griglia—for only $15!

At our Jan. 11 ESIG 25 Year Celebration we’re fortunate to have futurist Peter Bishop, Ph.D., APF, lead us in a lively brainstorm about communications revolutions of the past and what might be the next revolution. Bishop is founder and executive director of Teach the Future, an organization whose mission is to encourage and support educators who want to include futures thinking in their classes and schools at all levels. In 2013, Bishop retired as an Associate Professor of Strategic Foresight and Director of the graduate program in Foresight at the University of Houston.

This is one meeting you won’t want to miss. Join us Jan. 11 for a birthday party and a stimulating brainstorm on where we’ve been and where we might be heading!
